The Forestry Professions Act came into effect April 27, 2006 and was amended in 2009, 2010, 2013, and 2014. The 2013 amendment allowed the ASFP to operate as a Right to Practice Organization.

The Association of Saskatchewan Forestry Professionals is governed by its bylaws, which were adopted on September 7, 2006 and amended in 2007, 2008, 2013, 2015, 2018 and replaced in 2022.
